Vinegar Remedies, Medicinal Uses and Health Benefits of Distilled White Vinegar
Vinegar is a French word which means sour wine. There are many types of vinegar and they are made from various bases such as apples and grains and each produces its own unique flavor. For thousands of years, vinegar has been used in cooking, for cleaning purposes, preserving food and as home remedies to treat various conditions and illness. Even though it is called white vinegar, it is actually colorless, clear or transparent just like plain water. White vinegar is made from a 5% acetic solution derived from grains such as corn and rye and mixed with water. Another way it is produced is by allowing distilled alcohol to go through acid fermentation.
Vinegar is one of the cheapest remedies to stop or reduce itching caused by bites and stings such as fire ant bites, bee stings, chigger bites and jelly fish sting. To use it, apply it directly using a cotton ball. If you are sensitive to bites and stings, it's a good idea to bring it along in a small bottle when you go outdoors and use it when the need arises. Besides using the distilled white vinegar as a compress, you can also add 2 to 4 cups to a warm bath to treat itching.
If you have an itchy scalp, mix � cup of white vinegar with warm water and use it as a final rinse. Leave it without further rinsing. When it dries, the smell will disappear. Do this 3 times a week to see its effectiveness. You can also use this remedy to treat dandruff.
Use white vinegar to treat rashes such as that caused by poison ivy. One of the ways to use it is to boil it with yellow dock and once it is cooled, wet a cloth or dip a cotton ball and apply it as a compress. You can also simply just use the white vinegar directly on the affected area.
Ringworm is a type of fungal infection. Vinegar is one of the most natural and effective remedies to treat ringworm such as ringworm of the body, athlete's foot, jock itch and scalp ringworm. To use, soak a cotton ball in the white distilled vinegar and gently rub on your skin. It will cause a stinging sensation but only temporarily. Once the vinegar dries, soothe your skin by applying aloe aloe vera gel mixed with tea tree oil or lavender oil.
The common wart and genital wart are caused by virus. Dip a q tip in white vinegar and place it on the small skin color bump on your skin to determine if it is a wart. If the bump turns white, it is a wart. To remove wart, soak a cotton ball in the vinegar and place it on skin. Cover it with a band aid or plastic and fasten it. Remove it after a few hours and repeat the remedy several times a day until the wart turns black, shrink and drop off.
Mix 1 tablespoon and a little lemon juice in a cup of warm water and gargle to soothe sore throat. If you don't have lemon, add salt instead. Repeat it several times a day and it should provide relief.
Mix 1 part of white vinegar and 1 part of rubbing alcohol and pour 1 teaspoon of the mixture into each ear and then bend your head to drain it out. Do this before and after swimming or diving to prevent swimmer's ear. The solution prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi and also to speed up drying.
