There are two types of sinus infection or sinusitis. One is acute sinusitis and the other is chronic sinusitis. One of the major causes of sinus infections is because of the inflammation of the nasal passages. This can happen due to air pollution, an allergy attack, cigarette smoke or a viral infection such as a cold or flu.
Sinus infections will cause blockage to the sinus opening and prevent easy flow or mucus and air. This can lead to growth of bacteria. Some of sinus infection symptoms are congestion and having trouble breathing, chronic coughing, ear infection, sinus headaches, stuffed nose, post nasal drips and unpleasant greenish nasal discharge.
Get a bottle of an organic, unfiltered and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar that comes with the "mother". You can tell it is the one when you see that the vinegar is cloudy with sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Mix 2 tablespoon in an 8 ounce glass of water. Drink it up and continue to do so 3 times in a day. Normally you will experience sinus pain relief within an hour.
If you can't stand the taste, add 2 tablespoon of raw honey. If that doesn't help, mix the apple cider vinegar and honey in your tea. You have to bear with the smell.
Though it's hard to chew because of its odor effect, raw garlic is another one of the best natural sinus remedies. Garlic has antibacterial, anti viral, anti fungal agent and anti inflammatory properties. It is also very effective in boosting the immune system. If you really want to heal your sinus infection, just make a decision and chew about 2 to 3 cloves of raw fresh garlic.
If it is something that you can't bear to do, chop about 2 or 3 cloves add it to something edible. Another option is to make a concoction of chopped garlic or garlic juice, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and tomato juice. None of these mentioned garlic home remedy for sinus infection taste good. But it's better than having to suffer from the headache and the sinus congestion.
Research found that horseradish is effective for sinus infection treatment. This herb has antibiotic properties and will fight against bacteria. One of the ways to use horseradish for sinus relief is to grate horseradish root and put the grated herb in your mouth and leave it there until the taste is gone and you can spit it out. The compounds in horseradish will loosen the mucus and drain it down your throat and help clear the infection. Another way to take horseradish is to make soup or an herbal tea and drink it.
Use 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil, chamomile essential oil and lavender essential oil into a bowl of hot water. Get a towel to cover your head and the bowl as you breathe in the steam from this mixture. Eucalyptus oil produces and anti inflammatory effect and will help you breathe easier and clear the respiratory tract. Chamomile oil will help calm and soothe and lavender oil will help you relax.
If you don't have any of the essential oils, chop several fresh garlic and add them into the hot water and inhale the steam.
Nasal irrigation or nasal douche is the practice of flushing out excess mucus or to moisten the mucus membranes. To do this, get yourself a neti pot. Add a teaspoon of salt with a glass of lukewarm water. Stir the mixture and then pour it into your neti pot. Tilt your head slightly and insert the spout of the neti pot into one nostril. Breathe through your mouth as you let the saline solution flushes dirt, dust or pollen in your nasal passage. When the cleansing is done, exhale deeply. Repeat with the other nostril.
