Remedy for Excessive Sweating

Is there a remedy for excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis? Hyperhidrosis is a medical term for excessive sweating or excessive perspiration.

Sweating is a normal body reaction. Extra sweat is secreted when there is physical activity, if the temperature outside is too hot, when you eat spicy food, when you sense danger or if something triggers your emotion such as anger or fear. Menopause and hot flashes can also result in excessive perspiration.

Profuse sweating becomes a problem if it happens even though there isn't any trigger and the person affected is sitting still and in a cool environment. It isn't a disease but the condition can create embarrassment in social settings. The excessive sweat normally affects the armpits, feet, forehead or hands. Sometimes, a person's whole body may perspire.

If you are facing this sweat problem, see a doctor to find out if you are having a medical condition that you aren't aware of such as hyperthyroidism. Sometimes, a deficiency of certain nutrients may also cause excessive sweating.

Serious hyperhidrosis treatments include medication drugs, iontophoresis that turns off the sweat glands, Botox injection and endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy or ETS which is a surgical procedure.

If there isn't any medical problem and you choose not to get medical treatment, here is a list of remedy for excessive sweating that you might want to try out.

Sage herb

You may want to try sage herb extract. This herb is recommended for menopausal sweating but it is has the potential to reduce the sweating problems for anyone. According to Dr. Jörg Zittlau who has written several home remedies and health related books, sage contains ethereal oil which can regulate the central nervous system. The nervous system is responsible in triggering the sweat glands to secrete sweat. Sage extract is also able to regulate the secretion of the sweat to a normal stage.

Apple cider vinegar with honey

This next remedy for excessive sweating has worked for some people. Get a bottle of Bragg apple cider vinegar and some thick honey. Mix 2 teaspoons of each and stir well in an 8 ounce glass of plain water. Drink it regularly.

Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture is a Chinese traditional medicine that uses needles on certain energy meridians on your body. This is an alternative remedy for excessive sweating and may help you stop the sweating problem.

Reduce caffeine intake

It's not only coffee that contains caffeine. It includes tea, cola and energy drinks. Caffeine acts as a stimulant and causes your nervous system to behave as though your body is overheated. It will trigger the sweat glands to secrete sweat.

Cut alcohol

Alcohol stimulates blood flow to the skin. It also dilates the vessels and cause body overheating. The glands will secrete sweat to maintain the body temperature.

Lose weight

Obesity is another reason that contributes to excessive sweating. The solution is obvious. Lose the excess fat.

Use antiperspirant

As the name denotes, antiperspirant will reduce perspiration. Most antiperspirants contain aluminum salt. The salt causes a slight swell around the sweat glands and decreases the outflow of sweat.

Learn to relax

If you sweat excessively because of stress or something that triggers your emotions, learn to relax. Some relaxation exercise that you can practice is deep breathing and meditation.
