On this page are several pimple remedies and suggestions on how to remove pimples. Find out what causes pimples, how to prevent pimples and why pimple popping isn't recommended.
Pimples or known as zits are a form of acne vulgaris. A blackhead, whitehead, papule, pustule and nodule are some of the types of acne. Blackhead is caused when the oil duct is clogged with oil and dead skin cells and is exposed on the surface of the skin. A whitehead is the type of pimple when the comedo is covered with the skin and so it looks white. A papule shows up as a small, hard and red inflammation. A pustule is like a papule but with yellowish center because of the presence of pus. Cystic acne or nodular acne is the most serious type of pimple which appears as boils with pus.
Pimples form when there is excessive oil and dead cells trapped in the oil duct beneath the skin. There are many factors that cause pimples to form. Hormone fluctuation is one of the causes of pimples and it's a common problem among teenagers and girls and women prior to menstruation. Some foods, certain skin care products and not cleaning the face after exposure to dust can also trigger pimples. People with sensitive skin are at a higher risk of developing pimples.
Most of us would usually squeeze to pop out the oil. This isn't recommended because it may cause an infection especially if you have not cleaned your fingers and nails before popping the zits. The infection will cause the pimples to spread and it could lead to serious acne followed by scarring. The better way to do it is to use an agent that naturally sucks out the oil.
Make a paste of oatmeal by adding water to it. Apply the oatmeal paste on the zit, leave it to dry and then wash it off. You can also use a wet green tea bag and leave it on the pimple for a few minutes.
Another one of the easiest pimple remedies is to crush a few aspirin, mix with a little bit of water to make a paste and then dab it on the zit. Cover it with a band aid and leave it overnight. Applying a dab of toothpaste, fenugreek powder paste, vitamin E oil or a paste of cinnamon powder mixed with honey may also naturally bring out the trapped oil.
Once the oil is extracted, it may become inflamed or become red. Apply meadowsweet or comfrey extract to reduce the inflammation. Tea tree oil will really help not only to reduce inflammation but also prevent bacterial infection.
Make sure you wash off your make up before you sleep. Use baking soda as a face wash to remove dead skin cells that are clogging the pores. Salicylic acid from crushed aspirin or white White willow bark extract dissolved in water to also make a good facial wash. Otherwise, make use of over the counter anti acne face wash.
Take notice if certain foods that you eat trigger pimples and avoid them. Eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables are beneficial for the skin and your general health. Include foods that contain chromium, vitamin E and zinc or take dietary supplements. Drink lots of water to cleanse your body off toxins.
Don't scrub when you wash your faces and do not over wash or clean it. Washing your face twice a day with cool water and anti acne cleanser is sufficient. After washing tone your face and moisturize with gentle oil free toner and moisturizer.
