Try the home remedies for bacterial vaginosis listed below. But first let's find out what is bacterial vaginosis and what are the causes and symptoms.
Bacterial vaginosis is one of the common vaginitis that affects women. It isn't a disease but a condition whereby among the symptoms are an increase of watery vaginal discharge which produces a foul odor and a burning sensation. It may cause itching.
Unlike vaginal yeast infection which is caused by fungal infection, bacterial vaginosis is caused by the overgrowth of any of the normal bacteria that are present in the vagina. This overgrowth can happen during heavy menstruation, menopause and pregnancy.
The environment of the vagina is normally acidic. Frequent sexual activity may result in bacterial vaginosis due to the increase of alkaline from the sperm. Although bacterial vaginosis isn't contagious, it may cause some health risks if you have unprotected sex while having BV with a partner who has an STD.
Pregnant women are prone to bacterial vaginosis because the estrogen level is increased and cause an imbalance in the vagina PH. Pregnant women who develop BV during pregnancy must see a doctor for treatment to avoid complications such as low birth weight.
Mix 1 part of hydrogen peroxide with 3 parts of water. Use a syringe without needle that you have sterilized, dispense the solution into your vagina and hold it for about 15 to 20 minutes. The peroxide will cause a bubbling and come out foamy. That's normal.
Repeat this remedy for about three days and then increase the hydrogen peroxide to 3 parts and reduce the water content to only 1 part for the next few days or until you are certain that the discharge and odor are gone. Once it is gone, stop douching because regular douching isn't healthy for your vagina.
Lactobacillus acidophilus contains anti microbial substances. One of its main roles is to restore beneficial bacteria to the body and suppress harmful organisms. Taking acidophilus or probiotic supplement daily will help you prevent recurrent by maintaining the good bacteria. The supplement also reduces the risk of yeast infection.
You can get lactobacillus acidophilus from yogurt too. Some women use liquid acidophilus for douching. If you want to use yogurt, dip a tampon inside the yogurt and insert it into your vagina.
Another home remedies for bacterial vaginosis is to use boric acid. Boric acid has anti bacterial, anti viral, anti fungal and antiseptic properties. It is used as one of the remedies in treating vaginal yeast infection. What you need to do is buy empty gelatin capsules and fill the capsule with the powder and insert it into your vagina.
Another bacterial vaginosis treatment is to use either apple cider or tea tree oil. Add a few drops of apple cider vinegar or tea tree oil into your tub and soak yourself for about 20 minutes. Apple cider contains malic acid which fights fungal and bacterial infections. Tea tree oil is an antiseptic, anti inflammatory and bacteria fighter. Using either one of them is a healthy way to support your vaginal health.
