Eye Stye Home Remedies for Stye Eye Relief

A stye or hordeolum is a small red lump that looks like a pimple and it usually forms on the edge of an eyelid. It can also form inside the eyelid. In addition to the eye inflammation, other stye symptoms include tearing or watery eyes and swollen and painful eyelid.

A stye is normally caused by bacteria infection in the oil glands of the eyelash. The bacteria could have infected the eyelid when you touch your eyes with dirty hands. Debris and contaminations from makeup could also cause stye.

An inflammation that is bigger than a stye and looks like a cyst may indicate another eye infection called chalazion. This condition occurs if the oil gland in the eyelid is totally blocked and infected with bacteria.

A stye may also form due to a chronic inflammation of the eyelid called blepharitis. If you sense burning, itching and notice red eye and eyelids as well as crusts that stick together upon awakening, it could indicate that you have blepharitis and not the harmless stye. You should see a doctor immediately especially if your eyes become sensitive to light and your vision is affected.
