Boil Home Remedies

Try any one of the boil home remedies below to help the boil come to a head and drain out the pus. Unless it's a carbuncle or an abscess with several skin boils filled with fluid, pus, and dead tissue, you may not need medical attention.

You may also need to see a doctor if it's only one boil but it is so big. And if a boil doesn't subside after a week, you should also see a doctor. All these can be symptoms of more serious problems such as an mrsa infection.


Boils normally happen because of staphylococcus bacterial infection. When the bacteria have infected the hair follicle on your skin, it will show up as red and swollen lump or as small as the size of a pimple. A big boil indicates that the infection is deep in the glands of the hair follicle. When the infection gets into your lymph glands or blood stream, it may result in serious health problems.


A skin boil can occur on any part of your body with hair follicles. You can get it on your thigh, hands, armpits, scalp, back and groins and so on. Since the lips, palms and soles of the feet have no hair follicles, it won't be affected. If the pus in the boil is drawn out, it can infect other unaffected areas of your skin.


Boils can occur if you are a staph carrier. It could have been caused by some skin ointments that block the hair follicles. Tight clothing rubbing against your hair follicles may also cause it.


Boil Home Remedies No. 1 - Apply compressed heat

Using compressed heat may help increase blood supply to the affected area and bring the boil to a head.


  1. Wring a washcloth with warm water and compress it on the boil for several minutes and do it several times a day. Adding Epsom salt or witch hazel may also help.


  2. Heat a washcloth in a microwave and use it as a heating pad. You can any kind of heating pad for this purpose.


  3. A soak in a warm tub or a hot bath may help too.

Boil Home Remedies No. 2 - Use traditional old home remedy

You can use several items in your kitchen in treating boils. Persistency is required. It may take more than one application to rupture the boil. Before using the application, make sure you have cleaned the boil and its surrounding area with antibacterial soap.


When you apply any of these items, remember to cover it with a band aid to avoid the bacteria from infecting other unaffected areas once it ruptures.


  1. Apply egg yolk to your boil. You can also try to use the inner lining in the egg.


  2. Use onion or potato. Slice a piece and tape it on the boil. You can also use mullein oil.


  3. Mix turmeric powder with water, apply the paste on the boil and cover it up.


  4. Wet a gauze with vinegar, place on the boil and tape it.


  5. If you don't have anything in your kitchen except tomato paste, use it. It may work also.

Once the boil has burst, make sure you clean the area with antibacterial soap or solution. Cover it until is dried and no longer infectious.


If your boils keep recurring, it may indicate that your immune system is weak. To prevent recurring boil, you may have to build your body defense by eating foods or take health supplements that can fight bacterial infections.
