Try any one of the boil home remedies below to help the boil come to a head and drain out the pus. Unless it's a carbuncle or an abscess with several skin boils filled with fluid, pus, and dead tissue, you may not need medical attention.
You may also need to see a doctor if it's only one boil but it is so big. And if a boil doesn't subside after a week, you should also see a doctor. All these can be symptoms of more serious problems such as an mrsa infection.
Boils normally happen because of staphylococcus bacterial infection. When the bacteria have infected the hair follicle on your skin, it will show up as red and swollen lump or as small as the size of a pimple. A big boil indicates that the infection is deep in the glands of the hair follicle. When the infection gets into your lymph glands or blood stream, it may result in serious health problems.
A skin boil can occur on any part of your body with hair follicles. You can get it on your thigh, hands, armpits, scalp, back and groins and so on. Since the lips, palms and soles of the feet have no hair follicles, it won't be affected. If the pus in the boil is drawn out, it can infect other unaffected areas of your skin.
Boils can occur if you are a staph carrier. It could have been caused by some skin ointments that block the hair follicles. Tight clothing rubbing against your hair follicles may also cause it.
Using compressed heat may help increase blood supply to the affected area and bring the boil to a head.
You can use several items in your kitchen in treating boils. Persistency is required. It may take more than one application to rupture the boil. Before using the application, make sure you have cleaned the boil and its surrounding area with antibacterial soap.
When you apply any of these items, remember to cover it with a band aid to avoid the bacteria from infecting other unaffected areas once it ruptures.
Once the boil has burst, make sure you clean the area with antibacterial soap or solution. Cover it until is dried and no longer infectious.
If your boils keep recurring, it may indicate that your immune system is weak. To prevent recurring boil, you may have to build your body defense by eating foods or take health supplements that can fight bacterial infections.
